Janet  Welsh

Janet Welsh gained diplomas from the Royal Academy, Trinity College and the London College of Music in piano and singing. Since moving to Bedfordshire in 1972, she has taught in the local public schools, and also conducts local choral societies including Kempston Musical Society, Ouse Valley Singers, and the Bedford Hospital Choir. Under the auspices of the Council for Music in Hospitals, she has performed throughout the country, singing with her guitar.

Janet has also sung with the London-based (Malcolm) Sargent Cancer Festival Choir, and has accompanied them as organist to St. Peter's Rome, together with Notre Dame and Sacré Coeur in Paris, raising funds for the Sargent Cancer Fund for Children

In 1996 she became part of the small group Muse and Music who have given a wide variety of concerts in the UK, Germany, and Australia.

Janet has now retired from teaching in the Harpur Trust Schools after 33 years. In 2005, she received a Citizen's Award from the High Sheriff of Bedfordshire for services to music and fund-raising in the community, and in 2006 she was given the Winifred Fowler Award and the Mayor's Overall Borough Award for services to music in Bedford.
